If you’re following along on Instagram, you might have noticed that I slowly started a running routine. How come?
2020 has been such a rollercoaster for all of us and while I was pretty happy & relaxed during the first lockdown, I wasn’t in a good place during summer – mentally & physically. So instead of complaining and worrying, I put on my running shoes and just went for it. The biggest inspiration & motivation came from my husband who goes out for a 10k run every two days since three years.

My Schedule

When I started to think about a running schedule for myself, I wanted to have realistic goals without putting too much pressure on it. See how it turned out for the first six months:

I have to say that setting up small & realistic goals really worked for me. Starting with a 15 min run every two days was pretty simple to integrate into my day. It was just a 15 min investment which resulted in a real mood booster. 

Workout Gear

If you’re like me, you’ll probably get more motivation with some nice workout gear. Here’s some inspo for a running outfit I’d totally wear:

Welcome Monday! Welcome New Week! How does your start to the week look like? I’ve found my routine during the past weeks and must say that I never felt better in the morning. As I’m currently working from home 100%, I have the luxury to organize everything around my needs. I have never been a morning person and an alarm clock is the worst thing ever but I noticed that when I don’t set the alarm, I wake up at around 7:30 am quite naturally.
As a first thing in the morning, I’m enjoying my oat milk coffee with some good music and some News/Instagram/Inspiration etc. After that I’m checking my journal with which I’m planning my week with meetings and To-Do’s for the day. This helps me to stay focused and getting things done in an organized way. If I’m in the mood for working out, I’ll do some Yoga, Running or any other Workout. If not, I try to do it in the evening!
After getting ready, I’m starting to work at around 9:30 am. But since last week, there is one more step I’m celebrating…

My dear friend The Calming gave me their Ritual Kit which contains palo santo sticks, white sage & cedar smudge, golden triangle gemstones and sandalwood incense sticks > Thank you!
I really like the idea of clearing your space with good energy before getting started. So that’s what I’m doing now before sitting on my desk.

With this series I’d like to share my current Five Faves on a regular basis. It can be anything I’ve been obsessing over lately and basically a round up of what I love – inspirations, wish lists or just things that bring me joy.
The first edition is all about my current favorite Instagram accounts (beyond shopping hauls & banana bread – not judging!). So here you go..

Mue Studio

Wanna escape from the real world and dip into meditative and surreal places? Then you should definitely check out this Instagram account. I could scroll for hours through this beautiful feed, which is owned by the New York based design studio called MUE Studio. With their series ‘Somewhere in the World’ they are “creating a minimalistic yet vibrant surreal world”. I’m very into 3D image design lately as there is something so calming about these images. Everything appears relaxing and safe – maybe that’s what makes it so popular these days. It feels like escaping from the real world, like being between reality and illusion.

Good Condition

I’m a big fan of all these retro athleisure designs & 90s magazine cover vibes à la Sporty & Rich. I find the aesthetics deeply soothing and fresh beyond Instagram’s mainstream boredom. Good Condition is a site about all things Recreation & Wellness with input and advice on how to get into good condition. I also enjoy flipping through their online magazine, which is available on their site, too.

Nostalgia Killer

Let’s stay with the good old days. This account is serving me with a daily dose of nostalgia. With its picturesque posts and easy-going vibes, ‘Nostalgia Killer’ puts me in a good mood. Who wouldn’t get nostalgic here?

The Moon Lists

I’ve always been fascinated by the moon. Let there be a super moon or lunar eclipse and you can find me standing in front of the window looking up for a few hours.. No wonder this account caught my attention. Moon Lists‘s Instagram feed shows a beautifully curated moon-mood-board. The idea behind ‘The Moon Lists’ is to interview women to reflect on their last 30 days (so since the last full moon). It kind of inspires me as well to consider a monthly self-reflection or personal journaling.

Palm Heights

We can’t travel right now but we can dream. And this account is definitely causing wanderlust. Palm Heights is a boutique hotel in Grand Cayman. Their daily dreamy posts absolutely meet my design aesthetics. I haven’t checked the rates yet so I’m still dreaming..

When it comes to taking care of my health, I like to keep things natural most of the time. I haven’t tried any supplements so far because why taking pills & powders when you can just grab some fruits? Ok, I’m aware of the fact that it’s sometimes difficult to provide our body with all necessary nutrients. However, as long as there’s tasty food – I’ll go for that.

The food we eat has a powerful impact on our health.

I recently came across an article about alkaline fruits and how they can be health-promoting. In fact, they help remove unwanted acid and neutralize our body fluids. Being too acidic can cause a lot of symptoms, such as:

  • Tiredness
  • Lack of drive
  • Headaches
  • Allergies
  • Sleep problems
  • Blemished skin
  • Heartburn

So when you’re suffering from one of the above symptoms, you can try to eat more alkaline foods. As the ideal pH of our blood for our health is around 7, we need to make sure to keep alkaline and acidic food in balance. Because when your gut is off balance, it can seriously affect your mood, digestion and energy.

We need much less than we think we need.

Since quarantine makes me staying at home most of the time, I thought it might be the perfect chance for going on a skincare diet. With nothing on my face but a minimal selection of products. I’m a total beauty freak and can never leave a Sephora without buying anything so my beauty shelf contains a huge collection of skin care products. So deciding in the morning which products to apply can be a bit overwhelming and time-consuming. Furthermore, my skin tends to be dry and sensitive so I was aiming to get it back to producing its natural protective oils.

Here’s how I pressed the reset button and brought my skincare routine back to the basics..

Step 1: Face Wash

Alverde Hydro Face Wash

As a first step in the morning I’m using this simple organic cleansing gel from Alverde which I bought at a drugstore. I like the light texture and that it doesn’t contain any needless substances. Just one little pump onto my face with a splash of water – that’s it. The face wash works perfectly as a make up remover as well! Oh, and as it didn’t have the most spectacular packaging, I filled the gel into one of these nice pump dispensers from MUJI.

Step 2: Hydration

Maria Galland Silky-Soft Lotion

Second step is already moisturizing the skin. I’m applying the Silky-Soft Lotion from Maria Galland while the skin is still damp. This lotion has a soft gel texture and smells like a soothing day at the spa. It’s a product that I’m using for quite some time now and which was usually followed by a serum and face cream. However, these steps are now skipped during my ‘diet’.

Step 3: Ice roller

So there are a lot of skin tools out there but this one sounded most convincing to me. It’s an ice roller I bought on Amazon for around 7 € – a good invest I’d say! This handy gadget is a great way to refresh the skin. Just put it in the freezer and roll the head over the face. It helps decreasing facial puffiness, improving dry skin and can be also used to soothe headache pain.

Step 4: Eye cream

Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Resist Eye Cream

I’m rounding up my routine with this eye cream from Shiseido which is very rich in texture. I noticed that my skin around the eyes is more dry and needs an extra portion of moisture. This one works pretty fine.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Peeling
Paula’s Choice C15 Super Booster

Once or twice a week I’m giving my skin an extra highlight by using these two products from Paula’s Choice. It’s the Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Peeling and the C15 Super Booster. Both do a pretty good job and I must say that these are products where I’m really noticing immediate results. The AHA Gel Peeling has an ultra light gel texture and helps fading brown spots from sun damage (which I couldn’t 100% avoid as a total sun seeker). It leaves the skin smooth & soft. After exfoliating I’m treating my skin with some Vitamin C for an extra glow boost. This serum smoothens, brightens and firms my skin which I can see right after applying.

Résumé

If you ask me, a diet has never been that easy! I really enjoy having less products on my skin and let it ‘breathe’. I figured that my skin knows how to function by itself without a lot of products it simply doesn’t need. I’m trying to follow this ‘less is more’ mentality in many other aspects in my life and will share some more thoughts soon. Hey, nice to have you here!
Wanna join the Self Care Crew?

I’ve had the idea of starting a blog for quite some time now but it seemed that I never really had enough time to do so. Well, at least I always had an excuse… 

So blame it on life in quarantine where I’m at (or shall I say where we’re all at?) since 8 weeks. This time spent at home motivated me to give it a try.

Sure, there’s nothing new & fancy about a blog nowadays (so let’s see how many people will read mine in the end) but I’m actually seeing this project as a little creative space for myself. A space where I can collect all my inspiration, thoughts and memories. However, when I get to inspire you as well – call it a win-win situation!

And why ‘Self Care Crew’ you might ask. Well, self care in all its various aspects has always played an important role to me. Be it Health, Skin, Mind or Food – I’m never not trying to improve anything self care related. Now more than ever.

So I’m eager to share all that interesting and inspiring stuff that I come across. I hope you’re enjoying my self care journey!
